Wildlife Photo Competition 6 2013 : Judges Critiques : Page

Another very sad image of a captive monkey chained with a colar. The subject matter is strong and could be a contender for this theme. You have captured its very depressed looking expression which is clever but perhaps a wider view showing us a little more of its captive situation would have made a more powerful image of maltreatment. On a more technical note your focus is a little too far back, we have trouble looking into those slightly out of focus eyes.

Here is this round’s most fun photo and a nice image of human/animal interaction despite this monkey being a captive.

Lovely silhouette of a lovely bird but you make yourself look careless posting a bird in this « no birds please » competition! argh! It cannot qualify no matter how beautiful.

This is nice. A beautiful sunset silhouette of an animal with a beautiful silhouette. You are very close to the marks of excellence, your composition is original and amusing, i love the no legs framing. Unfortunately there are too many other very strong contenders this round. I hope to see more of your work.

A definite favourite and an original subject for this theme. It is a very clever wide angle frame of the cave entrance where all of these bats have come from. Great shot, well done.

There is nothing wrong with zoo pictures and having access to beautiful enclosed species should bring lots of interesting photo opportunities, please keep trying, you will get that great shot eventually. I’m afraid your lion, as it is here, is just too dull to make an impression. You could have taken a frame without that fence in the background, perhaps a closer crop on his very handsome face? I like the tree hiding him a little, it could have worked better…

Nice symetrical crop but you need to check your levels, contrast is too flat, the blacks washed out...

It is your very bold composition which has turned this savannah scene into a creative piece of photography. Well done, i don’t expect anyone else would have composed this same view with the two opposing edges really setting each other off. Thankfully a great wildlife shot doesn’t have to be a close up.

A lovely and rare moment of turtle romance. Great shot, well done.

The most important thing to get right is the focus… This is way off the mark.
