Wildlife Photo Competition 6 2013 : Judges Critiques : Page

he mood here is beautiful, the fog adding to the drama of the landscape, you have done well composing this photo. Perhaps a step back would have given the ibex a little more room below, it is a little close to the edge… Your signature is discreet enough and suggests you do lots of photography so i am surprised to see the heavy vignetting problem caused by your lens hood. Surely you could have anticipated that, or at least corrected it afterwards?

Ouch! Your idea here is fine, the play of the stripes and the line of the open wound make an interesting composition, and tell a story, which you have enhanced with the selective colour/black and white. You definitely had winning material here but sadly the photo is not sharp and lacks quality.

This is a powerful shot, it looks like this poor turtle crawled out of the sea to die on the beach. You may like this subject or not but the picture tells a story and has been well taken: nice low angle and short depth of field to get us right in there, but the vignette on all corners looks accidental rather than artistic and prevents your photo from getting through.

Gosh, another peacock in a « no birds please » competition. Please read the competition guidelines before submitting. No matter how beautiful your photo may or may not be, it has no chance if it is off subject.

Nice light, nice chipmonk and nice composition but unfortunately there is not much going on here to make this stand out. Keep at it, follow this little creature and maybe you’ll get something more interesting.

Well as i said it was very close… This is an amazing and amusing shot, perfectly taken and processed with fantastic detail on that little frog. Clever lighting and composition only add to the beauty of this work. Very well done.

Here is a wonderful effort and although there is no animal in the photo this is a great wildlife shot. Almost made it, well done.

You have captured a beautiful atmosphere here with these Camargue horses. Although these beautiful animals roam freely much of the time they are considered to be semi feral, which could be termed as semi domestic, and so are really on the verge of eligeability for this wildlife competition. But, let’s not disqualify this photo for that reason and have a serious look. Nice light and landscape, nice horses, good composition and you have created a lovely winter feel of this south of France region. The problem is that these animals have been beautifully photographed so often and in very dramatic fashion that your photo for a wildlife theme is just a little boring, the horses are nice but they are just standing around and don’t give us the excitement or originality you see in this round’s winner and marks of excellence. You obviously have the skill to take nice landscape photography, perhaps you should give that competition a go too. :-)
