Wildlife Photo Competition 5 2019 : Entry Number 60

Judges Comment

Apart from the obvious wow factor and cuteness this photo is technically perfect, the very short depth of field is difficult to master on such a fast moving subject and really sets mouse apart from its surroundings. Great shot and wonderful work, well done you win this round.

I am very happy to be the wildlife competition winner, thanks to the judge for choosing my image! Despite being one of our most common woodland mammals, the small, sweet and secretive wood mouse is hard to spot. In autumn the woodmouse collects nuts and seeds to store them in a food chamber to survive winter. Capturing the jumping mouse was quite a tough challenge for me, because it was almost impossible to predict the focus point. It was taken without any help of a camera trigger/light barrier. The shot was taken with my Canon 7D. Camera settings: f 3.5, ISO 1600, 1/1000sec.
