Simply a very cool photograph, using an unusual background as backdrop. Very effective, very simple.

Thank you. I teach High School, this is one of my yearbook editors from last year, I shot the prom photos for my yearbook kids. I also have my own company for photography. I entered the contest hoping to win the camera for the High School to use (I teach Photography and funds are very limited). I used my nikon d700 at Balboa Park in the Cactus Garden for this shot. This students nick name was "Tropic Thunder," haha...since he looks so much like Robert Downey did in the movie.
