Judges Comment

This forest of semi-submerged stumps would look intriguing in any light, but the use of a twilight long exposure has softened the water to create a surreal, ethereal effect. An image like this, though, needs a focal point and what better than a relaxed Canada Goose to complete the sense of serenity.

Many, many thanks to I Shot It and Mike Atkinson. The photo was taken after sunset along the Hudson River in Manhattan. It was an 8 second exposure and I was surprised that the goose remained so still that there was virtually no motion blur. The camera was an Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the M. Zuiko 75mm lens.
