  • This image catches the eye first for its color and light, but continues to hold one’s attention for longer. A lot of life seems quite simple, even banal, on first glance but there's always more going on. This photo, like life, has many layers to it and works on many unexpected levels to convey the essence of “City”. The craft of the photographer is evident, but stays in the background and does not take center stage. Congratulations to the winner - well done!

  • The silhouetted figures working under the stringed canopy have a wonderful almost fantastic quality here in this image. The composition where the workers are placed on a horizontal under a triangle shape renders a very balanced and stable feeling. The two diagonal lines in the foreground shadows mirror the lines in the wires above and provide a return for the eye to reenter the image and hold the attention.

  • This image draws it’s strength from the shadow which adds mystery and intrigue. Of course a beautiful person only partly revealed also helps.

  • Thank you very much for the Mark Of Excellence! Congrats to the winner (I think it is Omis at the river Cetina in Croatia - correct?) and all the TOP10 photographers. This photo was shot with a Olympus E-M1 + Olympus 12-40/2,8 and shows the fishermen village Reine on the Lofoten Islands. It is almost out-of-cam, only shadows/highlights slightly adjusted. • It’s always wonderful to see images of the different characters that stand out and become part of the fabric of a city. The Naked Cowgirl has been a figure in Times Square for some years but maybe making her first appearance here on I-Shot-it? The lines and repeating shapes in the composition help make it work well.

  • This beautiful overlook of the little village nestled into the rocks by the water really is inviting. Excellent capture and it must have been amazing to be there in real life!

  • Thanks for the mark of excellence too! This one is from Lofoten islands where the amazing city of Reine is scattered in small islands across Atlantic. On the background you can see the mountains of continent Norway. What a place that is..

  • Night shots have become quite popular but many suffer from odd colors and now that these night time images have become prevalent they must have engaging compositions and be technically well executed to stand above, and this one certainly does and in all of those categories – nicely done!

  • Thank you very much, Judges! This photo of Dubai was taken late October 2015, around 6PM, from the top balcony of Shangri-La Hotel. The camera was Sony A7 with FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. My name is Eddie and I am a beginner amateur (in every sense of the words) when it comes to photography, so I always look for opportunities to hone my skill.

  • The colors in this night image are not believable but as the opposing purple and orange colors vibrate with energy, they add to the otherwise balanced and immovable blocks of the composition and make this grand view vibrant and more potent.

  • Thank you so much for the selection. My name is Mike Meyers (yes, seriously) and I live in Chicago. This shot was taken on a recent work trip at the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge with a Sony a6000 and 32mm 1.8 Zeiss Touit lens (f13, 30s, 100ISO). I just picked up my first proper camera a few months ago, so I appreciate the critique on the edit. There's always more to learn.

  • Were this a real Rooftopping shot, we probably could not condone it, however on a glass observation ledge its okay! We enjoyed the view and the composition and technical execution of the image is very good. We are amazed there is no camera shake!

  • All elements of city life are worthy of consideration and here street art and street people fit together as elements of the composition in an engaging way that entices the viewer to consider the image and perhaps more.

  • Congratulations to the winner, wonderful capture indeed! Makes me want to spend my holidays there! This was taken at the "Donaukanal" in my hometown Vienna. Some homeless people are lying there just on these paperboards. There also is this ugly smell from urin, alcohol, cigaretts … You barely take notice of them anyway. So try to put yourself in their situation for one minute! Summer 2013, Leica M, 50mm
