- This is a wonderful action shot in difficult light of a fast moving tricky subject. You have seized this young roe deer beautifully, she seems to be jumping into the focus zone. The difficult shady conditions have given your picture a lovely soft character, while the sunny, more colourful distance makes a contrasting backdrop. Great shot and this round’s winner, congratulations !

- Wow ... I am very pleased with my first place in this category. My name is Werner Schmäing and I am from Dillenburg, a small town near Frankfurt, Germany. I am glad that I could take this photo in the evening light with an"old lens" in combination with a new camera. The photo was taken with the Canon 7D II and the EF 200 1.8 L. The lighting situation was really difficult and I'm glad that I could pull it off well. If you look closely, you can see dimly another fawn ... the situation was very emotional. I thank you again sincerely for the award. Also congratulations to the remaining places and I wish all participants good lighting in future. Greetings, Werner

- It was a close call, this young zebra (and passenger) are just so sweet… You have managed this sensitively, giving zebra plenty space whilst catching its unusual attitude within a square frame. Beautiful colours and tones too. Well done.

- Bill Bullard, NYC. I made this photograph of a zebra calf at Kirkman's Camp, outside of Kruger National Park, in South Africa while on safari with & Beyond in July 2013. I was using a Nikon 700 with a Nikkor 500mm f/4 lens.

- Well how cute can this get? You have portrayed these cheeky looking bear twins with so much character, all wet and up to bear cub mischief in the woods. They look curiously surprised but pose so naturally for your photo. Mother can’t be far away…mind your back :-)

- Well this cunning fellow has managed to sneak back into the marks of excellence once again, though this time with no thanks to his wonderful colours! You have caught a great misty half-light atmosphere, the perfect environment to head off on a hunt. Beautiful, well done.

- It was difficult choosing between several nice hare photos but this one makes it through largely thanks to the graphic background. The stalks of corn really set off this hare and give an interesting insight into its agricultural environment and co-existence with man.

- Well however you managed this… It is not everybody’s comfort zone being in the middle of a spiralling shoal of fish. The surface light really sets the fish apart into a mass of swirling silhouettes. It is pretty spooky really and makes me dizzy. Clever shot, well done.

- If you can see me, I can see you… This gets through because it is fun and because you took this photo that many of us wouldn’t have taken because of all the reeds getting in the way, when in fact it is all the reeds in the way which make this so good. Clever and no doubt a fleeting moment.
