  • A frozen mountain sunrise. Beautiful detail throughout this photograph wins you the 1st prize. You have composed this scene so well, preferring a strong foreground of colour, lines and shapes to an empty sky. Nice warm tones and colours add to this fine sharp shot. Well done and congratulations !

  • Wow! I am once again really honored that one of my image convinced the Jury. Took this one after a freezing cold night in the swiss mountains. The evening before, the stormy wild wind let my tripod fall, even I had it fixed really well. That broke my new Nikon FX Camera and I wanted to give up with tears in my eyes. Luckily I had a second camera body with me and so I decided to stay, even if I was in the mood to give it up. All night long I couldn't sleep cause of the stormy wind and my sad thoughts about the camera accident. Nevertheless I got up really early in the morning and found this beautiful spot. When the rising sun illuminated the snow, I found peace again and the joy cam back step by step. Many Greetings from Switzerland, Tobias

  • You have used the beautiful misty light to show off the delicate shapes of this birch tree’s branches really well and you have given plenty space to the various subjects in this photgraph. The result is a peaceful and moody shot. The added vignette, though perhaps a little too dark, holds the viewer’s eye whilst adding to the misty atmosphere. Well done !

  • This is such a happy and light hearted photograph. I love your simplistic, soft focus approach and tight crop. The splashes of contrasting colours are just splendid, the overcast weather gives the flowers a lovely shadowless saturation, you chose the right day for this photo… Sadly the dominant red flowers which i feel should be the main focus of this composition are just beyond the short depth of field and my eye keeps coming back down to the sharp foreground vegetation on this side of the fence instead of being held by those wonderful flowers. This was a winning composition, just let down by the focus… More please !

  • My name is Michele. I live in Corpus Christi Texas. I am so very honored to be selected for a Mark of Excellence! WOW!! This pic was taken in the Texas Hill Country in March which is famous for the abundance of wildflowers that bloom in the spring time. Particularly, Texas Blue Bonnets, the deep purple flowers beyond the fence. My husband and I traveled to the hill country for the day. Weather was rainy and overcast. The wildflowers are truly breathtaking and the further off the beaten path you go, the better. Colors are bursting. Fields are engulfed in a beautiful sea of flowers. I treaded through high grass(I had on my boots and was careful to watch for rattle snakes because they like to hide in the wild flowers) & took several shots of this amazing field. I'm an amateur and used a Canon Power Shot A2200 HD. It's a great camera. However, I am in the process of purchasing a much better, larger camera. Thanks for the advice and thanks for the award. THIS MADE MY DAY!!

  • This is an extraordinary photograph. The colour and geological significance keep the viewer entranced and the animal footprints (which look feline?) add to the mistery.

  • A beautiful tree and beautiful soft light turn this field into a wonderful setting for a landscape photo session. You have done well keeping the low contrast natural, giving this photo its real feel. Well done, you have made a lovely view with very little subject matter.

  • Once again the mist and soft light give so much atmosphere to this photograph. The trees are beautiful and the fairytale style bumpy ground bring an extra dimension to this lovely picture. Well done.

  • This is rightly a famous view and it has been photographed very often but you have succeeded in creating a lovely original pastel effect with this very long “big stopper“ style exposure, flattening out the waves and softening the moving clouds. Perhaps more foreground cliff and less sky would have been even better :-)

  • After several days of rain finally got to witness a beautiful sunset at Neist Point Lighthouse and I could take this picture at dusk. The image was made in mid-August of last summer on the island of Skye in Scotland with the use of a tripod and ND filter, wait a few minutes was enough to make this characteristic shot. Nikon D600

  • A real icy wilderness to which you have brought a great sense of dimension with the inclusion of the two foreground figures. They look like father and child and they bring a story of adventure to this forbidding landscape. The portrait format adds depth. Well done.

  • This is a wonderful moody forest composition where you have given this extraordinary tree all the attention it deserves. The twisting mossy branches lead the viewer’s eye into the very corners of this picture. It is a lovely full composition with no wasted space, a pleasure to admire.

  • This is a remarkable scene. The towering baobabs cutting their silhouettes against the sky, the low light and the soft shadows of an African evening. You really had all the ingredients for a magnificent shot, the distant figures and hen give a nice rural feel. The location is extraordinary and although your photo is really nice, the black and white a good choice, i feel you could have gone much further down the path of creative composition, you have shown us the nice view, now try and add some emotion.

  • Sadly your signature distracts from such a sensitive composition. If you must sign your photos in an anonymous competition keep it discreet. You have created a wonderful minimalist image with a nice balanced composition, you obviousy have plenty creative talent. Why spoil all that artistic harmony by writing on it? The anchor point of this photo is your name.

    • Hi, Michele from Corpus Christi again. WOW, 2 awards in one day! I am so happy and honored. This was taken on a county road after a two day ice/snow storm in North Texas. It just looked so magical and reminded me of Narnia. The chaos the storm created for the roads and school closings was terrible. But snow is rare for Texas so when it does happen, you have to capture the beauty of it. Sure glad I did.

    • Hi, my name is Fergal Gleeson. I'm a landscape photographer living in Carlow, Ireland. I shot this image I call "The Dark Woods" near Ducketts Grove, Co. Carlow on a foggy afternoon, It's a small wooded area just in off the roadway. The fog creeping through the trees adds an eerie, enchanted feel to the scene. I captured this image using a nikon d7000 using an 18-200mm lens set at 70mm, iso 400, f13 at 1/6 sec. Post processing was very minimal, just a small bit of cropping, added some contrast and tweaked the white balance slightly. I am delighted to receive a mark of excellence for this photo. Thank you!
