  • Everything is so perfectly placed in this photo, your composition has been meticulously prepared, the pizza turning beautifully upon itself, the chef’s dexterity and skill perfectly seized. Every implement has its place and space, even the light bulb adds to the creation…. The monochrome works very well and you have developed the most beautiful tones. Great shot, congratulations!

  • Delighted to win. This pizza man was cooking in a tiny local pizzeria/restaurant in a small village in Tuscany. He was fantastically patient when I started taking the photos and was obviously very passionate and talented about his pizzas. It was shot on a M240 with a 50mm lens and I'm really chuffed that this shot has won... so thank to everyone! Howard Shooter

  • The shapes and colours here are just fabulous. Who doesn’t want some of this? It is such a happy photo, those rings of orange and lime making great shapes for this abstract and clever composition.

  • It is the story, the human relationship, the simple café atmosphere of tiled floor, cigarettes, beer and food, which are so really expressed through this black and white composition. Nice.

  • I’m not quite sure what the story is here but it is a fine photograph of this only pea. The colours are beautiful, as is the minimal composition. Well done.

  • Thank you for the Mark of Excellence in this competition. My name is Heather Sprague, and you can find me under the name of Fey LittleWing Photography. I am not a food photographer by trade, but I imagine, like most photographers, I am always looking for a great shot of things that catch my eye. These mushrooms did just that. Taken with one of my Canon cameras, if I remember correctly, a PowerShot, I snapped these in San Francisco while on a day trip with friends. I was just drawn to how they were laid out in the box, as if to say, "Pick Me!" If I choose to edit a photo, my process is to edit until I feel the right emotional response. I ran the photo through a Bleach Bypass filter, and felt that emotional click when I saw the dark, shallow shadows that the mushrooms cast in the box.

  • This round’s fun entry, an amusing presentation, so cleverly assembled and digitally clever, but based on beautiful individual photographs.

  • Fuji X10 in Istanbul Turkey. The delicious chaos of what's left was so appealing i felt as if I'm looking into an oil painting. Thanks for the Mark Of Excellence.
