  • what a beautiful capture. the colors and tones, the composition of lines, the balance, everything just works. the overall framing is lovely. i actually prefer it without the stucco wall, coming in for a tighter crop of just the wooden frame, so that the interior yellow wall pops even more, but i think this is more a personal preference and can go either way. if it were me, for a final piece, i might photoshop out whatever it is that is wrapped around the bannister as i do find this more 'organic' line a little distracting from the rest of the clean, geometric lines which encompass the cat. beautiful image, and congratulations! ~ illona

  • Name: Vishaal Mehta

Location: Mumbai India - this photograph was shot at Khotachiwadi in Mumbai, a heritage village located just off a bustling street in South Mumbai. I had this very specific frame in mind and the cat made the perfect subject. I loved the geometric shapes and the deep blue offset by the yellow, all framed in a near perfect rectangle!

    Shutter: 1/100s Aperture: f 4.0 ISO: 1000

  • i absolutely and instantly fell in love with the story-telling quality of this image. the sweetness and promise that it exudes, along with the lovely tones and light, make it an instant favorite. the only thing holding it back from being #1 is the crop; i truly think this image could have been even stronger if there had been more frame at the top. the way it is currently presented, it is very tight ... it would have been nice to have some breathing room at the top, giving the viewer a sense of the kitten having a space to possibly fly into, and also showing a little more of the window as the source of light. but otherwise, an absolutely wonderful photo. ~ illona

  • My name is Boaz Perlstein. I work and create as a photographer. Based in Jerusalem, Israel. I took this photo five years ago with one of my first digital cameras- Nikon D40x. Although the technical quality is quite poor, this is one of my favorites of all times - There is a sense of loneliness and anticipation all together, a some what heavy atmosphere with a trace of hope which is sneaking in through the window. Ovad is a rescue cat, and he has an almost human like personality and he collaborates wonderfully as a model..:-) Visit my website and join me on facebook! https://www.facebook.com/boazperl

  • This is Huxley, one of the many adoptable cats I photographed at West Columbia Gorge Humane Society in Washougal, WA. He captivated me with the intensity of his gaze and the unique look. I don't usually convert the adoption portraits to black and white but this one seemed like a perfect candidate. It has been my favorite ever since, it even hangs in my office. Huxley has been adopted. Nikon D700, 24-70mm f2.8, processed with Photoshop CS6. Joanna @ Black Newf Photography in Portland, OR, USA.

  • this is just a lovely photo overall ... from the beautifully managed background and light, depth of field, post work, and color management, to the framing and capture of the stalking cat caught mid-stroll. of course, his unusual hair cut only adds to the intrigue of this image. thanks for sharing! ~ illona

  • Thank you very much for the Award. I really appreciate it. My name is Sandro Manni and I am located in Switzerland. Rocky, the cat on the picture, is one of my British Shorthair cats. Rocky is constantly moving, listening and observing the close environment. He is never lazy to embark on a new adventure. The picture reflects Rockys character very good. I took the picture during one of his "acceleration phases". I used a Leica R9 with digital back DMR; 90mm focal length; f/4; 1/8s; ISO 200. • This is my lovely Maine-Coon Cat "Lou". I took this Photo with my Nikon D60 last winter in Germany. The picture was taken in our garden. I loved how she looked at me while I was sitting and waiting outside for her to come in. Thank you so much for the Mark Of Excellence, which means a lot to me!
