  • The winner of this first food competition. The composition is simple, minimal, graphic, colourful and fun. The round doughnuts, framed once within the rectangular box and again within the table, look so tempting. Which one would you like? Great uncomplicated but artistic shot, well done and congratulations!

  • Beautiful lighting and contrast along with an effective choice of focus/depth of field really make this image mouth watering. The low angle and composition keep the eye deliciously wandering around from strawberries to cream. Beautiful, well done, it was a close call.

  • My name is Amy Nichols and this shot was taken in my kitchen while my daughter was making cupcakes. I love food photography and was excited to see a contest open just for food. I took this photo with a Nikon D3100 and worked on the exposure in PS. Thank you so much for the Mark Of Excellence!

  • This is an interesting, imaginative effort and so original. The “rain” is an essential part of this artichoke’s life and makes for a beautiful scene. The colours are soft and reaI, the water gives the vegetable a beautiful texture. Perhaps the focus is slightly too near, drawing the eye down to the base of this vegetable rather than upwards and over its flower ? Lovely artistic approach and an outstanding image ☺

  • Well I can imagine the laughs you had making this! Great invention and creative use of the vegetables (and bread) in this well composed miniature war scene. Well done, this is a fun favourite and it is a pleasure to see such humour in this competition.

  • My name is Stephanie, and I had a lot of fun creating this scene for the Food competition. Yes, there were a few laughs and strange looks from my husband as I was attempting to build this scene, but it turned out just as I imagined it in my head. I'm really excited to receive a Mark of Excellence for this photo. Thank you!

  • Nicely taken studio shot and certainly an amusing approach to this theme. I’m not sure I understand the story, but i do keep coming back to this one to have a closer look.

  • The black and white works well for this relaxing Italian café scene. Clever framing of the bare essentials leaves plenty space for a story, which builds from all that we imagine has been left out. Nice work.

  • My name is Sabine and this photo was taken on a city trip. Morning coffee in Paris, in front of Centre Pompidou, before going back to the airport, loved this typical scenery on the table next to me. I used a Leica M9 and a 50mm summilux. Thank you for the mark of excellence.

  • This looks like Bhel Puri, a street food snack in India. The atmosphere captured here is so real and alive despite (and thanks to) the very clever close crop. Lovely colours and tones make the photo a favourite and the snack irresistible. I’ll have one of those, yes please !

  • Hello, My name is Vijay and I am truly honored by the Mark of Excellence award. Thank you! Although I have settled in the US, I travel to India once every three years. Whether you are a photographer or a food junkie, or both, the country offers enough to whet your appetite. I took this photograph in Jaipur with a Canon T1i and the 17-55mm lens. Cheers!

  • A lovely fruity composition with contrast and saturated colour. The vertical format is strong and the composition with shapes and colours is quite beautiful, if not a little pedantic. It is a striking photograph though somewhat unreal. Did you take this specially for this competition? Nice.

  • Hi, my name is Elke, I'm a photographer working in Germany. I used a Canon 5D Mark III for this shot and added contrast and saturation in PS. No, I did not shoot this for this competition, it was a common work with my food designer. It was the template for a drawing. Thanks for the honor. Best regards, Elke

  • Well here is food, and plenty of it. What a fantastic and extravagant view of this happy feast which I guess must be in China. The telephoto shot really highlights the abundance of dishes. An amazing sight and photo opportunity.

  • Love this! We have all experienced a chocolate finger-licking dessert during childhood. This simple instagram type photo is so real and so close to an everyday child’s experience. Quite lip-lickingly delicious, I can feel chocolate all over my chin…well done !
