  • I love the colour of this image, its a great subject to use against the sunset and works well, it shows teamwork, competition, and just makes me want to go to the beach and play volleyball with my friends, a warm, pleasing image, well done.

  • My name is Matt Aden, I am from San Diego CA. I took this photo in Pacific Beach, CA one Friday afternoon while playing beach volleyball with some friends. It was shot with a Canon T2i. This photo was practically SOOC. All I did was crop and drop the highlights.

  • Love this, as a documentary photographer myself, i really appreciate images like this, behind the scenes, not the event itself but the 'after' or the detail, the arms around eachother tells more of a story than the game itself I'm sure, excellent image.

  • Shot this many years ago in the remote Salvadoran village of Chirilagua, a group of young immigrants from the USA returned to their town and had just played the local team, under heavy army presence as this was an area controlled at that time by the guerrilla FLMN group. Interesting times.

  • Lovely colours and angle, I just feel is missing something slightly to add more drama to the scene...perhaps shooting a wider shot would help....leave some negative space to show the vastness of the ocean he's about to explore? Nevertheless a great effort with lovely colours and unique viewpoint.

  • Nice viewpoint! Good to show some ground also as well as ocean, the ground helps give a sense of scale...not sure what the black shadows/watermark? are in the bottom right, i find them a little distracting. This kind of image can't fail to be fairly strong just by the fact that its skydiving, good effort.

  • I like this as a black and white image, good choice of process...the composition is a little off to make it a winner for me, but still a strong effort. I really think if the photographer had took lots more shots and got an even more dynamic shot of the same subject, this could easily have won the competition. Keep up the good work.

  • This was taken a couple of years back when I was a student photographer with a Canon 30D and 70-200. Sheffield has a rich history of boxing and continues to produce some talented boxers. I do a lot of street photography now but still find time to do sports every so often.

  • This image has a nice composition and contrast of the boy to the background and shows context of environment. I think there is room for improvement, perhaps eye contact would with the camera would have intensified the image, but nevertheless a nice catch.

  • I like this image, i like how someone has shot it as a sports images although its more like a street photo to me, which I also love very much, the colours are striking, and the crop is interesting, although I would like to have seen it taken maybe when the ball was in the air perhaps. or even from straight on to the wall so the angles were more symettrical...Still, a good image, well done.

  • Good action shot, just about perfect timing for this incident, my only wish that it was on a longer lens to blur the back even more, which I guess wasn't possible from this angle. Still a strong sports image emphasising 'timing', well done.

  • NIce capture, having been an avid cyclist myself I can appreciate the difficulty in nailing this image, as I've shot a lot of cyclists, both on and off road. A little more space to the bottom right corner may have helped, but nevertheless you've captured the energy, speed, effort and dynamic of the sport all in one picture, so well done, good work.

  • Nice image, good timing before the inevitable....this image just needs more dramatic lighting to finish it off...the light is very harsh which is a little distracting, If thats your friend kayaking, ask them to do it at sunrise or sunset (as long as its not too dangerous!) to get the dramatic light....i'm sure they won't mind the sacrifice to get you an award winning shot :-)... Still, a dynamic image and great subject/backdrop. Well done.

  • Thank you very much for the Mark of Excellence. This shot was taken at Ohiopyle Pa. Each year, experienced kayakers are given a brief period to plunge over the falls. Shot with a D700, 85mm 1.8.

  • Lovely image, great warm tones, good separation of subject and background.....very serine feel to the whole image and good composition, nothing wrong with this image at all....I feel if the judge of this competition had been a fisherman...you might have won with it, its a really nice image, well done.

  • Nice action shot...I'm honestly not a fan of the HDR effect that appears to be applied, i don't think its added anything the image, this could have worked equally as well in black and white....strong image though, captures the speed and energy of the event, my only advice would be try another angle where you can't see powerlines in the background if there is such a view point at this venue, they are the only distraction, good work.

  • I like this image, i think the depth of field you chose is perfect, shallow enough to focus on the gloves, but deep enough just to show the opponents concern with the impending punches...good work, nice clean image, well done.

  • Thank you for the Mark of Excellence on this photo. My name is Billy Precht and I have been shooting sports off and on for several years. I shot this image of Yuri Forman a few years ago in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was stuck in a corner position ring side with the television camera guy standing right over me. I wanted to show a unique image when it came to boxing and when Yuri stood up from his corner in the middle rounds his gloves were at the perfect level to see both of his hands and the face of his opponent who was studying how to approach him once the bell rang.
