Wow, what a surprise! My name is Perdita Petzl. I am an amateur nature photographer based in Austria, Vienna. This image shows a very rare and wild European Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus) reaching out for it’s fluffy breakfast. Unfortunately, in Austria these rodents are critically endangered – because of the loss of their habitats. Ground Squirrels are always searching for food because they have to build up fat reserves before hibernation.
After waiting for some hours, I captured this photo lying flat on the ground. I used a beanbag.
Only basic post processing in LR, no Photoshop.
