Most Popular Photos : All Years : Position 31

Thanks to everyone who voted for my photo! This is my 1st win in this competition! I have shot hundreds of photos of lightning and this one has garnered more attention than any of my others. It has been featured on the National Weather Channel on TV, published in Outdoor Photographer magazine, and won 2nd place in the amateur division of the International Photographer's Association competition. I shot this near Lamesa, Texas with a Canon XSI on a tripod. The wind had blown this cloud into the area where the lightning was coming out of the cloud cover in the top, and struck at just the right time! The only post processing was cropping a little. The wind blew in the cloud in the middle and the lightning struck through it and backlit the cloud's edges. My name is Jerry Cotten. I took this photo of lightning in west Texas near Lamesa, Tx. I was photographing strikes coming out of the cloud cover in the top of the photo when the wind blew the cloud in the middle across and captured this strike that went right through the center of it. I used a Canon XSI with a 18-270mm zoom lens (bulb setting) on a tripod. Thanks to everyone who voted for it!
