This is a stunning image from the first moment you look at it, and we keep finding stories and details. The contrasts between the classroom and what is written on the board, the t-shirt and the location. So many interesting details in one photos that you can keep looking at it. Overall the image to us communicates hope, future and aesthetics with deep respect for the people in the image.

I am honored and still in disbelieve ... So many "winners" in this competition. This picture, "Kibera Rays", was taken in a "classroom" in Kibera, the second largest urban slum in Africa. I managed to visit the area while working for "Sarakasi Trust". The judges comment did strike me … "Overall the image to us communicates hope, future and aesthetics with deep respect for the people in the image". That's exactly what these people provide … hope and a future. I obvious managed to capture these emotions. Shot on a Fuji X100, sun rays were shining through a few holes in the (hot) tin roof, revealing the dust and providing the most important thing we need … "Light" ! I'd like to express my thanks to the I-SHOT-IT organisation, members of the jury, fellow photographers, Anne and last but not least, the Sarakasi team (Marion!) " Arts and Culture for a better world ! " You can find the "Kibera" photo-essay on my Blog. Luc "Velu" Vekemans Belgium

what a stellar image. the wide frame format is perfect for this dramatic finish-line capture ... the drama in the skies, the shadows in the grass, and the strides captured in the two dogs, are all perfection for this apparently easy finish. VERY nicely done. bravo! ~ illona

This is a truly inspiring shot, a beautifully simple landscape with a harsh reality and a strong environmental message. I love the saturated, red warmth in this freezing Norwegian landscape and the way you have enhanced that with this abandoned and rusty old red barrel which brings such contrast, and indeed beauty, to both the picture and to the message. The photo has been expertly taken with beautiful composition, tones and exposure. The neutral density filtering is spot on and accentuates the foreground nicely whilst boosting the sky and mountains. Wonderful work, well spotted and well won!

Hello, I am Daniel Osterkamp from Munich, Germany and started photography just a couple of years ago. I was walking the Haukland Beach in Norway waiting for the sunset. Already visible from the street was the old barrel which made not only a nice color contrast to the bluish, cold winter landscape but also an environmental contrast. Happy that I was able to catch the barrel as a couple of days later the flood must have taken it away again as fellow photographers reported that the barrel was gone. Wait for the right moment and take the right picture. :-) If you would like to see more, you may visit my homepage (only in German so far) or my facebook-fanpage at https://www.facebook.com/fotografie.osterkamp Thank you very much for your attention and maybe becoming a fan of my page :)

Congratulations to the winner of the first I Shot It Child-Competition! It is such a great and very emotional picture! A special moment captured that really touches my heart. Old and young together in a protecting or maybe consoling situation.

It tells a story, has a great composition and a real special light situation, focused on the essential.

Thank you for such a great shot!

My name is Morten Holbein and I live in Norway. I work as an IT Manager but my favorite hobby is to take pictures whenever I get the chance. After discovering the beauty of shooting digital two years ago, I devote even more time to photography now. I have the camera with me every day and try to “capture the light” when the opportunity arises. This is a very personal photo for me of my father and his grandson. It is taken just before my father was to be operated on for heart surgery and my nephew who was afraid that he would not see his grandfather again. I was sitting beside them and shot from my hip with a Canon 5d MarkIII and 40mm 2.8 pancake lens which I always carry with me. As for post-processing, it is mainly sharpening and light adjustments with Adobe Lightroom and then sent to Silver Efex Pro for black and white conversion. Thank you very much for the First prize. I am honoured and proud.

A truly stunning action shot. Poetry in motion. Congratulations! This basilisk lizard, commonly known as the Jesus lizard because it can run on the surface of water, has been expertly photographed and has rightly stolen the show here. These are lightning-fast creatures and this photograph can only be the result of extensive work. Apart from the obvious subject appeal and the rarity of the moment the photographer has got him/herself down to the water’s level giving the lizard the tremendous presence it deserves. The focus is pin-sharp, the rapid movement perfectly frozen and the framing so strong, the water splashes adding further to the action. This is outstanding work and a worthy winner of this wildlife competition.

Thank you very much for this recognition! While Jesus had a divine energy to walk on the water this little creature uses his extreme speed to do the same. When I first saw this miracle in Costa Rica, I knew I could not come home without photographing this moment. Having learnt which spots they like the most for sunbathing, I was ready and took several shots.
